Juan Cuadrado, one of Colombia’s best football players, secured a new title as he became the champion of Italy with his new club, Inter Milan, on Monday, April 22. With six Serie A trophies, Cuadrado has now become the Colombian football player with the most Italian championships titles, surpassing the record held by his fellow Colombian Ivan Ramiro Cordoba, an Inter Milan legend.

Inter Milan season

Securing a 2-1 victory in the derby against their historic rival, AC Milan, Inter Milan clinched their 20th Serie A title, with five games still remaining. This season, Inter Milan dominated the league, suffering only a single defeat against Sassuolo early in the season.

For Juan Cuadrado, his first season with Inter Milan proved particularly challenging. The Colombian player sustained an Achilles tendon irritation in September 2023, requiring significant medical follow-up, including surgery. The midfielder was thus limited to only seven appearances for his club. Despite his limited playing time, Cuadrado delivered two assists, which contributed, in addition to his experience, to Inter Milan’s triumph.

Cuadrado, a Colombian legend

Born and raised in Necocli, on the Caribbean Coast, Juan Cuadrado is a legend of Colombian football. Joining Europe at just 21, the 35-year-old player has spent the majority of his career in Italy. Over eight seasons, from 2015 to 2023, he was a key player for Juventus in Turin. With this team, he won five consecutive Italian championships, four Italian Cups, and two Italian Super Cups, even participating in the 2017 Champions League final, which they ultimately lost to Real Madrid.

After David Ospina, Cuadrado is the most capped player in the history of the Colombian national team, with 116 appearances, participating in two World Cups and five Copa America tournaments.

During his career, Cuadrado has become particularly famous for his goal celebrations, always featuring dance moves as a tribute to his Colombian culture and his Afro-Colombian origins.
