Colombia has confirmed, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that it is sending two military aircraft from the Colombian Air and Space Force (FAC) to evacuate Colombian nationals from Israel. The serious situation of armed conflict that has been ongoing since Saturday, October 7th, between Palestinian Hamas militias and the Israeli army, has created an atmosphere of insecurity and fear, leading to the exodus of thousands of foreigners who are being repatriated by their home countries.

Colombia is coordinating the operation, led by the Ministry of Defense and the FAC, with its diplomatic delegation in Tel Aviv. Consular authorities are attending to the requests of Colombians, tourists, and residents who have expressed their desire to leave the country.

Although the diplomatic mission has remained closed since the clashes began, digital and telephone communication channels have been opened to allow those who wish to depart Israel to do so in an orderly manner.

Presidential Order

The rescue operation and the dispatch of military aircraft to the area are in response to a direct order from the country’s president, Gustavo Petro.

“Every Colombian who wants to return to our country and is currently in the conflict zone in the Middle East can do so through our FAC. An aircraft is available for this purpose,” the Colombian president wrote on his social media.

In this regard, the FAC has explained that two military aircraft will depart for the region starting today, Tuesday, and will be returning to Colombia over the weekend. They will have a few days on the ground to gather those requesting evacuation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the embassy in Israel has assisted 230 Colombians so far, providing guidance and support while processing the necessary documents for their return home.

42 People Have Already Left Israel

A group of 42 individuals has already managed to leave Israel, heading to Istanbul, Turkey, on a flight that departed yesterday, Monday. Another group, consisting of 67 members, are pilgrims whom the embassy has located in the Israeli city of Tiberias, on the Sea of Galilee.

It should be noted that there is an officially missing Colombian couple who were at the Supernova festival at the time of the Palestinian attack, which occurred on Saturday. The fate of this couple has not yet been established, but the Tel Aviv consulate continues to work with Israeli authorities to locate them.
