Colombian cinema keeps up its international expansion with a new original movie, “Corozo”, entirely shot in Colombia. This romantic drama tells the story of Samir, a young author disenchanted with his life, who decides to abandon his routine and hit the road to honor his grandfather’s last request: to transport a mysterious box from one city to another.

During his journey along the Caribbean Coast, Samir will meet Eve, an enigmatic traveler who will help him to answer his existential questions about love, life, and death.

Directed by Simon Elias, a Colombian-born director and actor based in Los Angeles, “Corozo” was named after a very tasty and popular fruit on the Colombian Caribbean Coast, which is notably used for fresh juices.

The movie has a duration of 97 minutes and was shot in two weeks with an iPhone 12 Pro Max. The filming took place entirely on the Colombian Caribbean Coast. The crew started from the Atlantico Department and pushed east, nearly reaching La Guajira Department, east of Santa Marta.

“Corozo” movie reaches the US

“Corozo” premiered last month at the 40th Chicago Latino Film Festival, the oldest festival dedicated to Latino Cinema in the U.S. Recently, the Colombian movie was also officially selected at the Colombian Film Festival in New York City, with a premiere scheduled this Saturday, at 7 pm.

With “Corozo”, Simon Elias makes his debut as a movie director. However, the Colombian filmmaker and actor is already experienced. He has worked for major streaming platforms Netflix and Prime Video on series such as “Crime Diaries”, “The Snitch Cartel: Origins” and “Dudes”. In the world of cinema, he previously worked on the American independent film “Quicksand”, which was selected for the Austin Film Festival in 2022.
