Romania is betting on large-scale tourism and entertainment with the construction of Dracula Land, an ambitious theme park inspired by the legendary figure of Dracula and the traditions of Transylvania. The project, officially presented in December 2025, aims to place the country on the global entertainment map and turn it into one of Eastern Europe’s leading tourist destinations.
With an estimated investment of around €1 billion, Dracula Land is shaping up to be one of the largest mega-projects in the sector on the continent and the first theme park in the world dedicated exclusively to the Dracula universe. Romanian authorities and private developers expect the initiative to have a significant impact on the economy, employment, and the country’s international profile.
Dracula Land: A mega-project in Romania inspired by the legend of Dracula
Dracula Land will be built about 20 minutes from Bucharest, near Henri Coandă International Airport, a strategic location designed to facilitate access for both domestic and international tourists. The complex will draw inspiration from both Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula and the folklore and legends of Transylvania, a region historically associated with Count Vlad Țepeș, the figure behind the myth.
The park will feature six themed areas and more than 40 attractions, including roller coasters, immersive rides, and interactive experiences that recreate stories of vampires, medieval castles, and gothic landscapes. One of the main icons will be a large-scale Gothic castle, designed as the central axis of the park and intended to become an internationally recognizable landmark.
In addition to its attractions, Dracula Land will include complementary infrastructure such as hotels, a spa, shopping areas, event spaces, and dining zones, turning it into a multifunctional complex rather than a traditional amusement park. The concept blends entertainment, culture, tourism, and technology, aiming to attract a wide range of visitors.
Tourism, economic, and cultural impact on Romania
Official projections suggest that Dracula Land will become a new European tourism hub, comparable to the continent’s major theme parks. Some media outlets have described the project as the “Transylvanian Disneyland” due to its scale and level of investment.
Economically, the construction and operation of the park are expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, attract foreign investment, and boost sectors such as transportation, hospitality, and commerce. For Romania, which in recent years has sought to diversify its tourism offerings, the park represents an opportunity to increase international visitor arrivals throughout the year.
From a cultural perspective, Dracula Land also seeks to revalue Romania’s identity linked to Dracula and local folklore, integrating historical and traditional elements into a modern entertainment proposal. Authorities have stated that the project aims to present a creative and appealing version of the country’s cultural heritage, while remaining mindful of its historical context.
