Colombian Music Star Yeison Jimenez Dies in Airplane Crash

Colombian popular music star Yeison Jimenez reportedly died this afternoon in an airplane crash.

The charter aircraft took off this afternoon from Paipa Airport was unable to gain altitude and crashed in a field near the end of the runway, where it was completely destroyed by fire.

The artist had just performed in Boyaca and was flying in a private light aircraft to Medellin. From there, he was scheduled to travel on to Marinilla for another performance later tonight.

According to the Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aviation, the aircraft was carrying a total of six people—consisting of the pilot, co-pilot, and four passengers—and had filed a flight plan to Medellin. Yeison Jimenez, age 34, died, along all of the aircraft’s occupants.

“In the afternoon today, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the crash of an aircraft with registration N325FA was confirmed in the vicinity of the Juan Jose Rondon aerodrome, in the area between the municipalities of Paipa and Duitama, in Boyaca. Sadly, after emergency responders and the National Police arrived at the crash site, the deaths of all six (6) occupants of the aircraft were confirmed. Among the victims was the well-known popular music artist Yeison Jimenez,” Civil Aviation reported in its latest statement.

Yeison Jimenez was born on July 26, 1991, in Manzanares, Caldas, Colombia. He was a singer, songwriter, and one of the leading figures of Colombian popular music. Jimenez showed musical talent from an early age, participating in local competitions as a child and beginning to write his own songs in his early teens. Before achieving recognition, he worked for several years in wholesale markets while continuing to pursue a music career independently.

His professional breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of his debut album Con el Corazon – Volumen 1, which marked the start of his rise within the popular music scene, with dozens of original compositions that draw heavily from personal experiences, focusing on themes such as love, heartbreak, resilience, and everyday life. His authenticity and powerful vocal delivery have earned him a loyal following in Colombia and among Colombian communities abroad.

Among the most popular and representative songs by Yeison Jimenez are Aventurero, one of his most iconic hits and a track that clearly defines his style, with hundreds of millions of views across digital platforms.
