  2. Boyaca, famous for its main city, Tunja.
  3. Caldas, home to Manizales.
  4. Cundinamarca, where the capital of Colombia, Bogota, is located.
  5. Huila, with its capital, Neiva.
  6. Norte de Santander and its largest city, Cucuta.
  7. Quindio, with the charming city of Armenia.
  8. Risaralda and its capital, Pereira.
  9. Santander, known for Bucaramanga.
  10. Tolima, home to Ibague.

Cultural Subregions:

The Andean region is a melting pot of cultural diversity. Seven cultural subregions can be found here, each with its own traditions and peculiarities. Paisas are known for their slow, drawn-out speech and business acumen, while Santander residents are strong and resilient.

Cundiboyacenses stand out for their industriousness, and Vallecaucanos are known for their joy and passion for salsa music. Opitas are music lovers, while Pastusos are friendly and possess a distinctive and colorful language.

Andean Gastronomy

Food in the Andean region is a feast for the senses. Some typical dishes include:

  1. Tamal: Made with rice, chicken, pork, and grains, wrapped in banana leaves.
  2. Caldo de costilla: Prepared with boiled ribs, potatoes, onions, garlic, and cilantro.
  3. Ajiaco: Chicken breast, potatoes, guascas (a flavor-enhancing herb), served with cream and avocado.
  4. Bandeja paisa: A regional sampler with beef, chicharrón (crispy pork belly), plantain slices, chorizo, arepa (corn cake), hogao (sauce), beans, and avocado.
  5. Typical desserts: Bocadillo veleño (guava paste), esponjado de curuba (passion fruit mousse), flan de leche (caramel flan), cuajada con melao (curd cheese with syrup), and much more.

Music in the Andean region is a profound expression of Colombian culture. Influenced by indigenous, African, and European cultures, Andean music is a unique blend of rhythms and melodies. Styles like bambuco, torbellino, carranga, guabina, sanjuanero, and pasillo are integral to this musical tradition.
