China opens its doors

The General Customs Administration from China has approved two Minerva Foods meat processing plants based in Colombia for meat exports. Red Carnica S.A.S, based in Bucaramanga, and Cienaga de Oro, based in Cordoba, are the two facilities that have been chosen to begin exports by the end of the month. The Technical Secretary of the Price Stabilization Fund, Augusto Beltrán Segrera, has confirmed the decision.

He stated that the Chinese government had finally approved the facilities to export Colombian meats to the Asian country. He also backed the first exports to take place after Easter. Fedegan president José Félix Lafaurie has commented on the commercial impact of this announcement.

He stated, “The incursion of Colombian meat into the Chinese market is the best news in recent years for farmers all over the country and is a product of their commitment to sustainability, genetic innovation, and cattle health.” The projected annual exports to China exceed 50,000 tons.

Fedegan’s triumph: leading Colombian meat exports to China

Since 2011, there has been a collective effort by the Colombian agricultural sector to comply with the Chinese sanitary stipulation for food exports. This effort has faced challenges such as being stripped of the status of being a sanitary country and a need for certain policies. Fedegan has played a crucial role in this process. They have led diplomatic discussions with Chinese representatives and have successfully encouraged farmers to increase the quality of their products. By these means, they were able to demonstrate the quality and safety of Colombian products.

The potential of these exports is very significant for the country’s economy. The increase in exports will generate considerable economic benefits for farmers. Exporting meat to the world’s largest meat-consuming market will also increase prices on the national cattle market.
