The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) recognized Colombian singer-songwriter Carlos Vives on April 2nd for his pioneering contributions to music and his lasting impact on the music industry.

At an exclusive ceremony in Miami held at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the artist received the ASCAP Founders Award, an honor previously bestowed upon notable figures like Quincy Jones and Bob Dylan. The event was attended by prominent figures from the American music scene, including Paul Williams.

Vives, who has accumulated 18 Latin Grammy Awards and 2 Grammy Awards throughout his career, was the focus of the evening as his colleagues from the music industry gathered to celebrate his legacy. Other awards of the night include Feid, who received the ASCAP Songwriter/Artist of the Year award, highlighting his recent hits that have reached number 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay charts.

During an interview with W Radio amid the ceremony, Vives revealed that he will soon premiere a documentary, recounting his childhood and his happiest and most traumatic moments. Furthermore, he addressed the current Colombian industry, stating, “Colombians infuse a heartfelt creativity into music, which identifies us and makes us authentic. I am proud of the diversity of my country,” said Vives.

The ASCAP Latin Music Awards are based on terrestrial and satellite radio data, as well as audio streams, reflecting the impact and popularity of songs in today’s music landscape. This yearly occasion showcased the diversity and talent within the Latin music industry. Other Latino artists, such as Marc Anthony, Mike Towers, Baby Rasta, and Becky G, were recognized for their contributions.
