Javier Milei met with Elon Musk on Friday, April 12, as part of an unofficial visit to the United States. The President of Argentina met with the billionaire innovator in Austin, where they toured Tesla’s gigafactory. Following the meeting, Milei and Musk displayed their camaraderie on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter and acquired by the American billionaire. The two have long publicized their shared ideological affinities, particularly regarding the importance of free markets and libertarianism.

When Milei met Musk

“It’s incredible…..thank you for all you do for the world,” said the Argentine head of state as he greeted Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. For months, Musk and Milei have displayed their ideological closeness on social media, exchanging praise and mutual invitations.

But this proximity goes beyond social media. Argentina recently allowed Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet company, to operate in the country. During the meeting, the two men discussed potential investments in Argentina, particularly in lithium, a valuable mineral crucial for the manufacturing of electric vehicle batteries. Reportedly, they also agreed on the importance of technology in human development and the need to ease bureaucracy to facilitate investments. The encounter also provided Musk with an opportunity to promote Tesla’s Cybertruck, as he offered the Argentine president a chance to drive the technological marvel.

Musk and X against Brazil

Through his meeting with Milei, Elon Musk also found support for his grievances against Lula’s Brazil. Indeed, the X platform is embroiled in a legal dispute with Brazilian justice after Elon Musk’s critiques of the Brazilian judiciary. The Brazilian Supreme Court initiated an inquiry into the tech mogul last Sunday, April 7, after X reversed sanctions on certain Brazilian accounts that had been penalized by Brazilian justice.

Purportedly in defense of free speech, Musk also began posting criticisms of Alexandre de Moraes, president of the Superior Electoral Court and a justice of the Supreme Federal Court, on the X platform, stating that “he should resign or be impeached.” During his meeting with Milei, Musk received the Argentine President’s support, who offered his “collaboration” regarding the political and judicial conflicts of the X platform in Brazil.
