Colombia witnessed an awkward moment as Jose Elias Chams, the mayor of the municipality of Sabanalarga, Atlantico, experienced an embarrassing mishap while delivering a speech at an educational institution. As he spoke, his pants dropped to the ground, prompting laughter from the attendees. This incident was captured in a video circulating on social media.
The incident occurred while the mayor was speaking about the 109th anniversary of the Educational Institution Codesa. Moments after the mishap, the mayor’s assistant rushed to help him pull up his pants. The attendees applauded loudly after one of the event leaders said, “Let’s give a round of applause to the mayor,” as heard in the recording.
Colombian mayor’s weight loss causes pants to drop
Chams has been undergoing a weight loss program in recent months, and explained that the reason for the situation was due to the kilos he has lost in the process. Amid laughter, while his companion helped him put on his pants and shirt, the mayor remarked, “Today goes down in history, I’ve lost 8 kilos.” Despite the minor setback, the event continued as usual.
Jose Elias Chams is currently serving his second term as mayor of Sabanalarga, having also held the position during the period from 2016 to 2019. During his candidacy, Chams stated in an interview with Atlantico Radio that he had the support of the population due to his “good management” and that all campaign promises were fulfilled during his last tenure.
