The famous and unconventional Upside-Down house in Colombia actively challenges gravity and teems with optical illusions: the roof touches the ground and all of the furniture is floating in the air.

This weird house is located in Guatavita, a town just 45 minutes outside of Bogota. It has been dubbed “the inexplicable house” and has quickly become one of the most visited and photogenic attractions in Colombia.

This unique piece of architecture is an unmissable experience. The house is located just 50 km outside the city of Bogota and is accessible to everyone by road. There is a large network of buses that leave the city every day and go by this bizarre place.

What makes Colombia’s Upside-Down House so remarkable?

The optical illusion is what makes this location so remarkable. The moment you step into the house, you immediately realize that common sense does not rule this space. The floor is in the roof and the walls seem to defy gravity. The house is also tilted by five degrees to the left and 5 degrees backward. As you take your first step into the house, vertigo will take over your senses, while your confused brain tries to understand where you are stepping.

Its interior is also part of the show. All of the furniture in the house and common objects are upside down. The chairs hang from the roof, lamps emerge through the floor, and beds look like they float. The sheer amount of detail put into the house makes it a unique and different experience for locals and tourists alike.

How much does visiting the house cost?

The Upside-Down House is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (Mon-Wed) and from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm (Thu-Sun). Adult admission is COP 22,000, children aged three and up pay COP 19,000, and family packages start at COP 58,000.
