Colombian Football League Finals Announced

After nineteen exciting matchdays, the Colombian Football League Finals have been decided. Since January, the twenty first-division teams have been playing every week to decide the eight teams going to the finals. On Sunday night the finalists were decided.

How do the Colombian Football League Finals Work?

The two groups of finalists, Group A and Group B, are each comprised of four teams. In turn, each team will play six games in total, three at home and three away. The two teams from each group that score the most points will head to the league final in June, which also has two games, one at home and one away. 

Atletico Bucaramanga and Deportes Tolima lead Group A and Group B respectively. This comes after Atletico Bucaramanga’s best-ever finish in the regular season, when they won 38 points by winning 11 games and only losing three. This is the first time that Bucaramanga has finished the regular season in first position. 

Deportes Tolima came in second and scored 38 points, missing out on the first position by a difference of just one goal. These two teams have a sporting advantage for the finals. This means that no team can draw with them on points, meaning that if another team were to draw with them on points in the finals, Bucaramanga and Tolima would still advance to the final. 

How are the groups composed for the Colombian Football League Finals?

As previously stated, Atletico Bucaramanga leads Group A. This group is also composed of Deportivo Pereira, Junior from Barranquilla, and Millonarios F.C. Meanwhile, Group B is composed of Deportes Tolima, Santa Fe, La Equidad, and Once Caldas.

Once Caldas, the team from Manizales, makes its first appearance in five years. The Colombian Football League Finals will kick off on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5, with the best game of the matchweek being Millonarios away at Junior de Barranquilla.

Who are the favorites to win the Colombian League?

According to stats agency XpectaSports, Millonarios F.C. and Tolima are the favorites to make it to the Colombian Football League Final. Millonarios F.C. is on a six straight win streak, and Deportes Tolima was one of the best teams during the regular season. Independiente Santa Fe and Junior are also heavy favorites due to them having solid squads.

Atletico Bucaramanga and Deportivo Pereira will also hope to reach the final, given that they also had solid regular season campaigns. Once Caldas will hope to reach the title game for the first time in a decade, as they have the Colombian Football League’s all-time leading top scorer, Dayro Moreno.
