The case of alleged tax fraud against Shakira has been closed in Spain, following a request for its closure by the Spanish Prosecutor’s Office. This marks the second tax fraud case against the Colombian star in Spain. In both instances, she chose to settle with the prosecution by paying substantial fines to avoid trial. Shakira still faces a third case pending in this European country, related to administrative issues from 2011.

Shakira and her problems with the Spanish tax authorities

A few months ago, the singer faced another case of tax fraud related to the years 2012, 2013 and 2014, during which she did not declare her residency in Spain. At that time, she reached a settlment with the prosecution to avoid trial, paying 17.45 million euros.

Subsequently, to demonstrate her willingness to cooperate with justice, Shakira deposited an additional 6.6 million euros to regularize her situation in a second process related to another case of tax fraud involving inconsistencies in her income tax and wealth tax return for the year 2018.

The artist, who relocated to Miami, U.S. with her children after separating from Spanish ex-footballer Gerard Piqué, has another administrative case open with the Spanish Treasury, relating to the year 2011.

Media couple’s troubled relationship

Since their first encounter in 2010, the relationship between pop superstar Shakira and soccer player Gerard Piqué has consistently captivated media and fans. Their love story began in unconventional circumstances: they first crossed paths during the filming of the music video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” the official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which featured Piqué as a representative of the Spanish national team.

Initially, they kept their romance private, but it soon became public knowledge. In 2011, Shakira officially confirmed their relationship through social media. The couple has shown strong compatibility, not only in their personal lives but also in their careers and commitment to charitable causes.

One of the highlights of their relationship was Shakira’s decision to move to Spain to be closer to Piqué. This move marked a new chapter for the couple who soon expanded their family with the births of their sons, Milan in 2013 and Sasha in 2015, both in Barcelona.

After enduring months of rumors regarding crises and infidelities, the couple announced their breakup in June 2022, ending their twelve-year relationship.
