Colombia has 15 nominations for the first edition of the Ibero-American Awards for Intelligent Tourism Destinations, which will be held in March in the city of Curitiba, Brazil, as part of the International Intelligent Destinations Fair.

Of the total number of Colombian nominations, seven correspond to programs and projects implemented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism; another eight are for destinations that presented to this festival the efforts of their tourism secretariats and local governments.

The Vice Minister of Tourism, Arturo Bravo, emphasized that “Colombia is one of the countries with the most nominations in these awards, which demonstrates a co-ordinated effort in the regions. We carry out very good practices aimed at smart tourism, not only from the national government but also from the territories and hand in hand with private initiatives”.

Colombian nominations

The Colombian nominations, highlighted for their efforts to make Colombia a more inclusive, sustainable and intelligent destination, are:

The Tourism Development Level Methodology – NDDT, in the category of tourism governance.

Sustainable Tourism Destinations of Colombia, in the category of environmental sustainability.

The project for the diversification of tourism, with a focus on climate change, implemented in the Coffee Cultural Landscape, also in the category of environmental sustainability.

EMPRETUR, the first national program of stimuli, incentives and promotion of the tourism sector, in the category of economic sustainability and competitiveness.

The national strategy of Social and Accessible Tourism: “Travel as a Tool for Inclusion”, in the category of tourism accessibility.

COLOMBIAR, the transmedia strategy of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Fontur and Canal Trece, in the promotion and marketing category.

Other destinations that have also been nominated are Bogota; Medellin; Manizales, Guadalajara de Buga in Valle; Santa Rosa de Cabal in Caldas; Filandia in Quindio; and Jardin, in Antioquia. According to Vice Minister Bravo, these places “represent the possibility of positioning Colombia on the Ibero-American tourism map”.

The Ibero-American Tourism Awards

This year 2024, for the first time, the “Ibero-American Smart Destinations Awards” will be held, an initiative created by the Ibero-American Network of Smart Destinations (DTI), with the purpose of motivating, promoting and recognizing tourist destinations, companies, startups and institutions linked to tourism that exhibit projects contributing to the transformation and development of DTIs.

This proposal, unprecedented for the region, seeks to showcase projects aimed at achieving a more competitive, systematic, sustainable and inclusive tourism management.

The call is for “Destinations” that carry out or participate in projects in the field of tourism; and “Organizations and companies”, which includes non-profit organizations and private companies linked to tourism. Thus, the candidates that present the most sustainable, innovative and inclusive solutions in the different categories defined may be nominated for the DTI Ibero-American Award, which is the first initiative of its kind in Latin America.
