The vibrant city of Bogotá, Colombia, is set to host the 19th International Art Fair of Bogotá (ARTBO) from November 23 to 26, 2023. This event, renowned for its dynamic celebration of contemporary art, brings together a diverse mix of artists, galleries, curators, and art enthusiasts from across the globe. The Ágora Bogotá Convention Center, known for its avant-garde architectural design, serves as the perfect backdrop for this artistic extravaganza.

A Melting Pot of Artistic Talent

ARTBO 2023 is not just an art fair; it’s a global hub for artistic exchange. With over 300 artists, 113 participating spaces, and 45 national and international galleries from 14 cities worldwide, the fair is a testament to the rich and diverse art scene. This year, the fair takes a bold step by featuring emerging artists without commercial representation, providing a unique platform for new talent to shine.

Breaking New Ground

In its 19th edition, ARTBO introduces two innovative sections: “Diseño” (Design) and “Encuentroes” (Encounters). The Design section is a celebration of artistic and functional expression, inviting attendees to explore the intersection of art and design. Encounters, on the other hand, offers a forum for professionals and experts to engage in meaningful dialogues about contemporary art’s pressing issues, trends, and challenges.

The theme for this year’s ARTBO is “New Spaces, New Realities,” aptly reflecting the fair’s commitment to showcasing fresh and innovative artistic expression. The Ágora Bogotá Convention Center, with its use of natural light and versatile spaces, promises a boutique fair experience that is both intimate and inspiring.

Ovidio Claros Polanco, President of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, emphasizes ARTBO’s role in supporting the arts industry and fostering collaboration between small businesses and galleries. María Paz Gaviria, Director of Cultural Programs at the Chamber, highlights the fair’s exciting new format, which includes a vertical distribution akin to a boutique, featuring avant-garde proposals, large-format art, young talents, and independent publications.

A Diverse Range of Artistic Sections

ARTBO 2023 presents a diverse range of sections, each offering a unique perspective on contemporary art. The Main Section showcases galleries from countries like Spain, Chile, Argentina, France, and the United States. The Projects section, curated by prominent figures, explores the theme of “How Forests Think.” The References section examines artists who have broken historical paradigms, while the Site section showcases large-scale works from countries like Sweden, Peru, Cuba, and Colombia.

Platform for Emerging Artists and Unique Perspectives

“Artecámara” serves as a platform for emerging artists, and the “Artist Book” section explores the book as an artistic medium. The Conversations section offers a learning and discussion program related to the fair’s sections and collections.

This year’s fair includes Guided Visits in its Articularte section, focusing on the importance of dialogue and visitor engagement. Cultural institutions and publishers will have the opportunity to promote their publications, particularly those related to the visual arts.

The new sections, “Design” and “Encounters,” add fresh dimensions to the fair. Design is elevated as an artistic and functional expression, while Encounters brings together professionals to discuss contemporary art’s issues and trends.
